IT_jobsIt seems like every year around this time, broadcast news media and magazines like to recap the “best of” the year, whether it was the year’s best movies, worst dressed, sexiest men or person of the year.  It is also a time when the same media outlets start making lists for the coming year.  As someone who specializes in recruiting for IT jobs in Dallas, I do a lot of research on the job market for recent college graduates. Usually, when IT jobs are among the top ten best paying jobs for college graduates, there is good reason for the whole industry to celebrate.

A recent article that appeared on CNN.com focused on the best paying jobs for recent college graduates, and not surprisingly the report proved that IT jobs continue to expand while other industries shrink.  It’s interesting to note that the starting salaries for many of the best paying jobs exceed the current salary of many tenured professionals in other fields

While this is encouraging news for any budding IT manager; it also means that these fields are about to become much more competitive.  According to a recent article published by GTN Technical Staffing in Dallas, TX (“What are the Best Paying IT Jobs for 2012?”), here is a sampling of some of the computer science oriented job offers listed in the NACE survey of best paying college majors.

Out of the top ten best paying jobs, these jobs fall into the category of “IT jobs”:

  • Computer science grads – starting annual salary offer in 2011 was $63,017
  • Electrical, electronics and communications engineering – starting annual salary offer in 2011 was $60,646
  • Computer engineering – Average salary for recent grads in 2011 was $60,112
  • Systems engineering majors – starting salary averaged $57,497 in 2011
  • Egineering technology – average starting salary for 2011 grads was $57,176
  • Information sciences and systems – average starting salary for 2011 graduates was $56,868
  • Business systems networking and telecommunications – average annual salary for recent grads in 2011 was $56,808

After noting that seven out of the top ten best paying jobs for college grads are in the IT field, it’s no surprise that many talented students are vying for admission to the engineering schools at the nation’s best universities.   However, when they get out of school the real competition begins.  While there are plenty of great jobs for engineers, the competition for the best IT jobs is still quite intense.  Why not improve your chances of landing one of the best paying IT jobs by working with a technical recruiter?
