As an IT professional, you probably think you have a leg up on the competition when it comes to online job searching. After all, the Internet is your playground, right? But if you’ve been paying attention to the news, you know you’re not the only IT professional vying for the best Dallas job openings. Texas has been in the news quite a bit lately because it is one of the only states that have shown consistent job growth. Residents of the Dallas area may be pleased to find out that their city is experiencing a faster economic recovery, but this also means that people from other parts of the country may be competing for the same jobs.
According to a team of Dallas technical recruiters, most job seekers still think they can manage their own job search. They figure if they send out enough resumes, write enough customized cover letters, and follow up with enough phone calls; eventually this approach will yield them one well-paying IT position at a Fortune 500 company. Take it from someone who has tried this approach repeatedly; even the most experienced IT people in the country rarely stand out when one job listing gets hundreds of resumes. It wasn’t until I decided to work with a technical recruiter that I was finally able to break through to the decision makers.
It seems like every year around this time, broadcast news media and magazines like to recap the “best of” the year, whether it was the year’s best movies, worst dressed, sexiest men or person of the year. It is also a time when the same media outlets start making lists for the coming year. As someone who specializes in recruiting for IT jobs in Dallas, I do a lot of research on the job market for recent college graduates. Usually, when IT jobs are among the top ten best paying jobs for college graduates, there is good reason for the whole industry to celebrate.
Not long ago, an article was featured about technical jobs in Dallas, inquiring about their availability. Perhaps this had something to do with Rick Perry’s recent announcement as a presidential candidate, but a lot of people were asking, “Are there really any technical jobs in Dallas, or are they just a lot of minimum wage positions?” Since then, there has been a lot more debate about which sectors of the economy in Texas had experienced the most robust job growth. Some went as far as to argue that at least 40 percent of the job growth in major cities was due to companies’ hiring illegal aliens. But the author proved the opposite is true, at least in Dallas, which has recently become a “magnet city” for technical and IT jobs.
Buying and selling a business has become quite a challenge in this economy, which has caused even the diehard “do-it-yourself” entrepreneurs to seek professional advice. A professional business broker can make the process of finding a buyer or finding a business much faster. But how do you go about finding the best business broker? It’s not as if they place ads in newspapers or send out email blasts to promote themselves.
